Types of clear wood finishes: before making your product selection, you should take the time to understand the difference between CWF-UV, CWF and other clear wood finishes on the market. Varnish: when first applied, varnish provides a clear gloss finish. However, it ultimately breaks down under exposure to the elements resulting in peeling, cracking and blistering, marking recoating very difficult. Varnish should only be used on smaller wood objects. Wood preservatives: most of these do a good job protecting wood protecting wood against fungus and mould in the short term. However, they will not maintain the rich appearance of natural wood. Semitransparent surface coatings: these also look good when first applied, but as they sit on the surface they are susceptible to peeling and cracking and eventually require removal by sanding before a new coat can be applied. They often have a plastic look and hide grain. Clear wood finishes from flood: both CWF and CWF-UV penetrate deep into the wood, dry clear, seal out moisture and stabilize the wood. Both restore and maintain the rich, warm appearance of natural wood. Periodical re-coating without sanding will keep your wood beautiful for years to come. CWF-UV is the environmentally friendly equivalent of proven CWF. It is specially formulated for Cedar weatherboards and fences. Restores color to weathered wood and maintains the natural look. Will never crack or peel and is easy to recoat without sanding. Treat new wood with Seasonite first and apply CWF-UV after aging period for a truly natural look.
