Seeking out Win-Win Cooperation Internationally, ITRI is Heading for USA Technology Innovations after the Storm

This May, ITRI delightedly holds ‘ITRI Forum 2009 and Career Fair’ and ‘Country Seminar on Taiwan’s Biotech’ in the United States and invites significant representatives in technology-based industries for more business opportunities.

Led by Dr. Johnsee Lee, President of Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), ITRI Forum 2009 and Career Fair will be held at Silicon Valley Crowne Plaza, CA, on 16th May; meanwhile, Country Seminar on Taiwan’s Biotech will be held at Hilton Atlanta on 18th May. Through opinion exchanges and technology exhibitions, ITRI is looking forward to searching for cooperative partners in order to create win-win opportunities for international cooperation.

The ITRI Forum 2009 and Career Fair will explore the theme of Technology Innovations after the Storm. Dr. Richard Dasher, Executive Director of Center of Integrated Systems of Stanford University, will deliver a keynote speech on the impact of the current economic crisis on R&D globalization. Meanwhile, ITRI displays the current conditions of 11 technology-related items of emerging business opportunities, including green energy, medical devices, flexible electronics, LEV, energy ICT, multi-core DSP, WiMAX chips, thin film solar cell/plasma and so on.

Hosted by ITRI and co-organized by Taiwan’s National Science Council, Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industries Program Office of MOEA, and Development Center for Biotechnology (DCB), 2009 Country Seminar on Taiwan’s Biotech in Atlanta on 18th May invites major biotech experts from Taiwan, such as Dr. Chi-Ming Liang, Director of Academia Sinica, Dr. Yu-sheng Chao, Director of National Health Research Institutes, and Dr. Chei-Hsiang Chen, Director of Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Industries Programme Office of MOEA, to discuss about current opportunities and challenges of Taiwan’s biotech industry and proposed strategies. By means of this forum of venture capital firms, biotech companies and academics, Dr. Gary Miller of Exactech Inc. is also invited to share successful experience of cooperating with Taiwan’s biotech industry and to present the significance and strategies of international cooperation in an economic recession to maximize benefits by the model of industry alliance and emergence.

As the most large-scale high-tech R&D institute, ITRI, founded in 1973, has been playing an important role in moving the technology industry development of Taiwan, to date earning over 9,000 patents and assisting the foundation of over 150 companies. For example, both Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC), leading in semiconductors, are well-known enterprises derived from ITRI. To expand the range of R&D and encourage more international cooperation, since 1979, ITRI has begun to setup continually ITRI International Inc. in Silicon Valley of the United States and offices in Japan, Germany, and Russia. At present, ITRI cooperates with SRI International, a famous institute of USA in biotechnology and medicine; in the fields of electronic information and optical communications, ITRI has long-term partnerships with MIT, Carnegie Mellon Univ., UC Berkeley, and Stanford Univ.

Regarding talents as the biggest asset, since the year 2003, ITRI has headed for North America annually to recruit high-tech talents. This year, ITRI recruits executives with technical expertise and management experience of the following technology or industry-related fields, including software applications and development, network and telecommunications, medical devices, solar photovoltaic, batteries and electric cars, industrial economics and trend analysis etc. ITRI is eager to increase Taiwan’s R&D energy and promote the whole industry development through the input of overseas professionals returning to Taiwan.
