PDC drill bit is the most important tools during the drillings, which will effect the quality, cost and efficiency of the drilling. Compared with the cone bit, the ROP of the PDC bit is about 33~100 times to cone bit, but the cost will be 1/30~1/50 to the cone bit. The speed of drilling will be 3~4 times to the cone bit.
These bits are expensive and used for very fast penetration mostly in shales. This bit has carbide or man-made industrial diamonds set in fixed blades. The cutters simply scrape the rock away during drilling, and do not rotate and grind the way the cones of a tri-cone bit do.
